Russel Hunt, PMHNP, is a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority in Oregon. He received undergraduate degrees in psychology and nursing at Eastern Oregon State University and a Master of Science in nursing, specializing in mental health with a sub-specialty in families and children, from Oregon Health Sciences University. He served an internship at CDRC (Children’s Developmental Rehabilitation Center) in Portland Oregon, is retired from the Navy Reserve Nurse Corps and has been in private practice for almost 20 years. A former associate professor of nursing, Mr. Hunt developed and taught classes in mental health, psychology, communication, child development and ethics.
A featured speaker for the National Association for Rural Mental Health, including a pre-conference workshop, Mr. Hunt has presented seminars throughout the United States. Specializing in the treatment of co-occurring disorders, while focusing on precursor factors of childhood disorders, he has also been a featured speaker for pharmaceutical companies. His practice settings have included in-patient Oregon State Hospital; out-patient community mental health; residential drug and alcohol treatment (adult and adolescent) and private practice. Mr. Hunt has provided services in education and medicine since the early 1990’s using tele-delivery. His varied background, which has spanned public and private, military and civilian, medical and non-medical careers combine to form a collage of experiences and education that makes him easily understood and extremely approachable. Mr. Hunt’s experience providing services to remote, rural areas and his dedication to team building tends to give his seminars a feeling of “in-service informality” even while discussing complex and highly technical information.
“Russ presents complicated information about diagnosis and treatment of various mental disorders to providers and consumer/patients in an authentic way that makes sense to the audience. He is enthusiastic, down-to-earth, most informative, and we would not hesitate to invite him to speak in the future.”

“With over 15 years of clinical mental health experience and a command of modern pharmacotherapy, Russel Hunt presents a no nonsense approach to the management of psychiatric disorders. His quick wit and keen sense of humor captivate his audience making them wonder why pharmacology was such a difficult subject in school.”
